We are now accepting orders for a few handmade flutes! These are traditional flutes, you will not find anyone else making these. Lone Bear is the last to carry on this tradition.

The sweetgrass flute is made by hand from lightening struck cedar. Lone Bear adds Intricate wood burn etching designs and details so each flute is different than the next. Even the sound is unique to each flute and player. These are tuned to a traditional song that was taught to him by his grandfather. These are not tuned to the English scale, although he can make them that way.

These are all custom made and can take several months to complete.

Once ordered Lone Bear will begin to create the flute, designed just for you. Each is unique and one of a kind.

We walk through woods in Maine to find a cedar tree that has been struck by lightning. It has to be straight with no knots. This can take a long time just to find the right tree!

We keep track of the “stock” based on how much material and time to make them. He can only take several orders at a time.

Lone Bear can begin a flute for you with a deposit, the rest will be due before shipping.

“I have been making and playing Native American flutes since I was 8 years old. My Grandfather taught me how to carve flutes at the age of nine. As a child, I would sit with him for hours to watch and ask questions about the art of flute carving. I harvest all the wood and make many of the tools myself. I do not use any power machinery. I use mostly lightning struck white cedar. Once the cedar tree is struck by lightning, the wood crystallizes. It is this result that gives the finished flute a unique sound and tone. I also make a "sweetgrass" flute. This is traditionally a Grandmother's or woman's flute. While this flute is played, the player as well as the listener is soothed by the light fragrance of "sweetgrass" with each note.” -Lone Bear
